GIS for Vegetables Crop Production

Vegetable farming is popular in peri-urban as it has reasonable economic returns than growing other cereal crops. Vegetables are more profitable so, farmers allocate more resources including organic manure for its cultivation especially in the areas that have easy access to market. Vegetable farming needs balanced care of land and crops so, farmers very often cultivate vegetables near the residence. In general, using more organic manure in vegetable farms means making an amount of organic manure less available for non-vegetable farms, unless alternative arrangements for producing more quantity and quality organic manure are made. Evaluate the state and Indian agriculture land for vegetables crop production with relevance for GIS database. There is need to evaluate the state and Indian agriculture land for vegetables crop production with relevance for GIS database. It provides basis for creating a GIS database for vegetables crop production. It expounded on the principles of Geoinformatics and their relevance in horticulture development. The current methods of data collection, analysis and management leads to emphasize the need to adopt Geoinformatic methods to improve agricultural productivity to meet the nutritional need of the teeming masses as well as for export income. The challenges in this wise are low level of technological development, inconsistency and less implementation of government policies, low level of investment, small land holdings, heterogeneity of cropping systems and market imperfection. The using of GIS database in vegetables crop production will help to increase the knowledge of the vegetable growers relating with the selection of areas, selection of suitable productions direction and varieties and applying of good agricultural practices for sustainable vegetable production.
