Mr. Vedpal ,
Research scholar, JSS college of Pharmacy, India

Mr. Vedpal has completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy and Masters of Pharmacy (Pharmacognosy) from JSS College of Pharmacy Rockland, Ooty, affiliated to The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, India. Presently he is working as a research scholar in JSS College of Pharmacy Rockland, Ooty, India.

The global burden of cancer has been increasing day to day, the increasing rate of mortality associated with the existing conventional cancer therapyist he driving factor forth discovery of the new anticancer agents derived from plants is currently under investigation.Thepresentstudywascarriedout to evaluate the anticancer, antioxidant properties of Cyperusrotindus .Linn frequently used in Indian traditional medication. In vitro anticancer activities of various extracts of Cyperusrotindus .Linn were carried out by using sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay in DLA cell lines and their in vitro antioxidantactivitiesby 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl DPPH assay. The results obtained indicate that Cyperusrotindus .Linn has potent cytotoxic activity toward the selected cancer cells and the antioxidant study revealed that the selected plant was found to be effective DPPH scavenging agent. Among all the extracts ethyl acetate extract has shown anticancer and antioxidant properties significantly in a dose dependent manner. The results of the present findings strengthen the potential of the selected plant as a resource for the discovery of novel anticancer and antioxidant agents.
