Bio: Dr Yolanda Koulouri is a biologist who studied for a PhD (2005) in Marine Biology-Ecology at the Biology Department of the University of Crete (Greece). She has been working as a research assistant for 10 years at the Institute of Marine Biology of Crete (IMBC) and at the Institute of Marine Biology & Genetics(IMBG) of the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (HCMR). Since 2006, she has been evaluated and working as an Assistant Researcher at the IMBG (HCMR). Dr Koulouri is currently (2011 to date) an Associate Researcher at the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology & Aquaculture in Crete (HCMR). She has adequate experience working on more than 30 European/National funded research projects concerning marine biodiversity, Integrated Coastal Zone Management, development and management of marine protected areas by using artificial reefs, environmental impact assessments, marine pollution monitoring and ecosystem approach of fishing effects on the marine environment. She has also an invested interest in the study of biology and ecology of BBL macrofauna. She is the author of more than 35 publications in Scientific Journals and Conferences Proceedings. She is also writing books for marine education for the public (ocean literacy).
