Gina Pighetti grew up on a small dairy farm in central Pennsylvania, USA. After a post-doctoral position investigating the role of obesity in breast cancer, she joined the faculty of the Department of Animal Science at the University of Tennessee. Her primary research and outreach efforts seek to develop and refine immune based strategies to decrease the risk and consequences of mastitis. Gina’s research focuses on identifying and understanding the functional impact of genetic variation in the immune system and mastitis susceptibility, the influence of management practices and stress on immune function and mastitis, and improving vaccines. She also enjoys working with dairy producers directly to help them meet their milk quality goals.
